Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon was founded in 1972 as one of Portugal’s first modern public universities. Since its establishment, the university has expanded its disciplinary reach into 4 schools: Iscte Business School, the School of Sociology and Public Policy, the School of Technology and Architecture, and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities that group 16 departments.

On-campus, students find not only a robust intellectual tradition, with mentorship from teaching staff involved in cutting-edge research, but also a vibrant, multicultural environment. Of the approximately 10 000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, nearly 20% are international, coming from 80 different countries.

Furthermore, the university is actively engaged in collaborative projects, networks, and partnerships around the world, including a range of educational, training, and research programs supported by the European Union. Iscte is a research-oriented university running annually more than 200 scientific projects and publishing more than 1400 papers internationally. Its research structure is multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary and is organized around 8 research units (RU) and 6 laboratories. RUs have high quality by international standards, with significant contributions in their research areas. Iscte’s participation in the RESETTING project is the result of the collaboration of 2 of its RUs: Information Sciences, Technologies and Architecture (ISTAR) and the Business Research Unit (BRU).
